Remember Those January Goals?

It has become such a tradition that when the 4th of July fireworks die down I, somewhat like Pavlov’s dog, start thinking about our company’s Marketing Report Card.  What were those goals we set back in January?  Did we meet all of them?  If not, what creative excuses will we invent to explain our failures?  Where can we pat ourselves on the back?

DENIAL IS NO HELP

Planning for success is an exhilarating experience full of hope and good intentions.  However, to ensure effective marketing, you must evaluate your progress every so often.  If you are not used to a six-month marketing check up, here’s an easy way to get started.

LIST YOUR GOALS

List each of the goals you set for yourself six months ago.  Goals are statements of what you wanted to see happen.  A worthy goal might have been to increase your listings from 1 a month to 2 a month.  Another goal might have been to make the same number of transactions as last year but to work with higher end property so that your commissions are higher.

GRADE YOUR PROGRESS

Give your goal a Plus (+) if you are on the right track and you see definite progress.   Give your goal a Zero (0) if there is no positive change and give your goal a Minus (-) if you have actually lost ground.

It's Never Too Late

If you did not make goals at the beginning of the year, it is not too late to start.  I’ll help you develop goals when you request a Free Custom Web Plan at http://www.sellrealestate.net/customweb.htm.  If you did make goals and you have graded each of them, here is the next step.

FIND THE REASON

Every time we state a goal we must also plan realistic strategies for making it happen.  If the goal was to increase listings from 1 a month to 2 a month, plans would have been needed to make that happen.  Hoping isn’t a strategy. Likely strategies for this kind of goal might be to create a coordinated Website and advertising strategy targeting FSBOs or a geographic farm or absentee owners or all of the above.  If you stated the goal and developed a realistic plan for reaching the goal and you implemented that plan, you probably gave the goal a Plus Sign.  If you stated the goal but did not implement any plans for reaching it or the plan was weak, you probably gave the goal a Zero or a Minus.

BUDGETING FOR SUCCESS

No matter what you decide to do, it takes money to do it.  Some folks choose to do nothing because they feel they do not have the budget to go after more business.  But doing nothing can end up costing a great deal in terms of lost business and lost opportunities.  Budgeting depends on the goals you want to reach and the methods you will use for reaching them.  Visit http://www.sellrealestate.net/archives.asp and click on WHAT SHOULD A LEAD COST for more information.

Make it a Great Finish

If all your goals got Plus Signs, Good for You and keep up the good work.  And, I do mean Keep it Up.  You cannot afford to slack off now.  If your goals did not get Plus Signs or if you did not set goals at all, all is not lost if you take steps to remedy the situation today.  I mean now!  There is actually no law that says that goals must be set in December or January.  Goals and plans to implement those goals can be set at any time that you decide to get serious about making money or saving time or making more while working less.  Need help?  Call me toll free at 888-814-5347 or go to http://www.sellrealestate.net/customweb.htm and send me an Email.  In the meantime, here are the main rules or guidelines for increasing your business.

DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT

If you want better results than what you are getting now, you are going to have to implement a different strategy from the one you are relying on now.  If you want your Website and your advertising to stand out and be noticed, you are going to have to do something different from all the other agents who want the same things you do.  Either way, the key word here is DIFFERENT.

TEMPLATES ARE NOT DIFFERENT

Template Websites and template postcards are relatively inexpensive because of their one size fits all nature.  But, it is hard to be different when you are doing the same advertising as everybody else and using the same Website as everybody else.  If you want to generate leads then your marketing strategy needs to be designed to do just that.  For ideas on how that works and to check on your own approach, visit http://www.sellrealestate.net

and see how coordinated your marketing is.  The key here is COORDINATED MARKETING.
