THE REAL ESTATE WEB DESIGNER?S ROLE
Obviously, the role of the real estate Web designer is to give the client whatever he or she wants on the Website. However, sometimes there is a conflict. Conflict occurs when the client wants two things that are mutually exclusive. How can this happen? Well, it actually happens quite frequently. For instance, a real estate agent might hire a real estate Web designer for the specific purpose of having a site set up that will get top search engine placement in the free or organic section of the search engines response page. This is all fine and clear but then, as it often happens, the agent wants a design style that is the equivalent of shooting self in foot. Maybe the client wants a totally graphical site. These are very beautiful but not effective in generating leads if placement in the free or organic section is the planned method of promotion. So, what does a real estate Web designer do when an agent or broker wants conflicting things? What I do is explain to the client why the one thing he or she wants is in total conflict with the other desired objective. Then, I let the client decide. As a real estate Web designer that specializes in Search Engine Optimization I try very hard to convince the client to follow their head and not their heart but many times my advice goes unheeded. So, what happens then? In all the years that I have been a real estate Web designer, I have only had one client who chose to go with a totally flash site, never got any business from it but still loved the site and remained a client until he retired. That is not what usually happens. What usually happens is the client gets the graphical site they insisted on, gets no business from it and after so many months of this, cancels with us and decides to go with another real estate Web designer. You see, when they say the Customer is Always Right, it means more than you think it does.
