REAL ESTATE WEB DESIGN MISTAKES Mistakes in real estate Web design can be very costly. Certain mistakes can keep a Website from ever reaching high enough ranking on the search engines to get traffic. Other mistakes can discourage visitors from connecting with the agent or broker who thinks he/she has a viable marketing strategy when, in fact, they do not. What are these offensive mistakes that a good real estate Web designer must avoid? One is an element of design and the other is an element of content. Both design and content can have either a positive or a negative effect on the outcomes.
Real estate Web design, like all web designs, needs to be based on human behavior. We know how people read, from left to right. And we know where people expect to find important information on the page, at the top or as is common in newspaper parlance, above the fold. In other words, people are not inclined to scroll down the page to find what they are looking for. When a real estate Web designer puts pictures or text about the agent or meaningless text focus on welcoming visitors?a content mistake-- a powerful opportunity is lost. Other mistakes real estate Web designers sometimes make is over-use of photos, especially the use of Flash, which is very pretty but not of much use beyond that. It is the real estate Web designer?s responsibility to guide the client to make wise choices for the home page. Content mistakes occur most frequently on the home page, which is the most important page as far as real estate Web design is concerned and as far as search engine placement is concerned and as far as visitors are concerned. The second most important content area for real estate web design is the MLS Search. A Website that does a good job with the home page and a good job with the MLS Search is more than likely going to do a good job for the agent or broker.
